I am Kathie Yount, mother of Dylan Yount who was the subject of the article you linked from The Scavenger -- "A man jumps to his death and people -- laugh?" I have struggled for five years to understand his death and what happened that day. You wrote, "Here's a couple of stories for those who continue to insist that people are basically good at heart." Certainly, Dylan saw the worst of people at his death in Hallidie Plaza, San Francisco, 2-16-10. Since then, we have tried to educate others and raise awareness about suicide baiting and lobby for better police training for their interactions with the mentally ill. Our Facebook page is Suicide Baiting Prevention on Facebook, and we welcome all support. I am also actively engaged in litigation with the city and county of San Francisco and am in my third attempt to secure a jury trial, currently at the First District Court of Appeal, San Francisco. Twenty-four SFPD officers set the tone and did nothing to stop the suicide baiting and the inhumanity that 1,000 people witnessed that day. I saw your post five years ago and have thought about what you said every day since then. For me, I continue to hope that San Francisco does the RIGHT THING about what happened to Dylan that day. The police have refused to talk to me -- and never have. If we do not say in court that what happened to him is wrong -- then you are right -- people are not basically good at heart.
