University Will Retain 'In The Year Of Our Lord' On Diplomas
Trustees at Trinity University in Texas have voted to keep the words "In the Year of our Lord" on its diplomas. A campus diversity group had asked the school to drop the phrase to reflect an "inclusive campus spirit." Walter R. Huntley, vice chairman of the Trinity board of trustees, said the board thought the language was appropriate. "The board's decision reflects its desire to continue a Trinity tradition," he said, "and the words 'in the year of our Lord' are appropriate for the diploma, given Trinity's history and heritage."
